Some are designed to be taken home and hung on a wall to remind us to pray for the deaceased.Others are designed for outdoor use, often on the door of a standing tomb or for placement in a wayside shrine.Every dusty old bit of blessed palm is carefully collected and brought to a church to be burned.We especially love to find sick call Crucifixes in which the candles have been used.We were wondering how old they were, where they came from and what they were used for.
Measures approximately 10-1/8" wide and 5-1/2" high. I was unsure of its use because of the 2 pieces that extend up on either end of the inside.I am wondering if you might be able to help me identify these crosses.My husband and I purchased them many years ago at an estate auction.It represents the crucifixion of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by the Romans.Most crucifixes are in the form of a “Latin” style cross with a “corpus” or “body of Jesus” attached to the cross with an “INRI” banner on the top of the cross.
