Lawyers for Hall are seeking .2 million in compensation and claim the town illegally held up his plans to expand the venue to include an outdoor amphitheater, in an effort to force him to reduce capacity at the club.
Hall says that if he has to do that, he’ll be forced to close the venue, which has hosted acts from Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings to Todd Rundgren.
Still, for all he describes himself as a “collaborative” musician, Daryl shows little interest in collaborating with John Oates, the songwriting partner with whom he sold 80 million albums, making them the biggest-selling duo in history.
He describes himself as “running three careers at once”, namely Live From Daryl’s House, the solo career (his latest album Laughing Down Crying is out tomorrow) “and I’m still doing the occasional tour with John Oates”.
“The times have allowed what I do to flourish,” he tells me. I saw it before a lot of other people and I decided to use it to my creative advantage rather than have a futile fight against it.” So he launched Live From Daryl’s House five years ago, attracting millions of viewers for his low-key, laidback performances alongside stars from Smokey Robinson to former Eurythmic Dave Stewart and Cee-Lo Green, as well as an eclectic roster of up-and-coming artists.
Next week Daryl returns to Britain with a one-off appearance at Shepherd’s Bush Empire where fans can expect to hear Hall & Oates classics alongside Daryl’s solo work.
He seems keen, though, to distance himself from his on/off songwriting partner.
On the subject of putting together a Hall & Oates box set two years ago, he describes the partnership with detachment.
Ironically he did become a father-figure to his second wife’s two children from a previous relationship.

Hall & Oates singer Daryl Hall’s upstate eatery, Daryl’s House, is suing the sleepy town of Pawling, NY, over a dispute involving the venue, which features live music.
According to editors at the Poughkeepsie Journal, management filed a lawsuit in March (17) to prevent the town of Pawling from lowering the venue's maximum occupancy from 318 attendees to 198. Daryl Hall doesn't mind The xx sampling Hall & Oates if they ''pay'' him royalties.
